Shalarth ID Scam: New Graft Allegations Surface Against Former Deputy Director Vaishali Jamdar

In a fresh development in the Shalarth ID scam, former Deputy Director of Education, Vaishali Jamdar, is facing new graft allegations. These accusations, uncovered by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), add a new layer of complexity to the ongoing investigation, which already involves fraudulent appointments and the manipulation of the Shalarth portal, a key digital platform for managing teacher records and salaries in Maharashtra.

According to sources, Jamdar allegedly demanded a bribe from a teacher to clear official procedures. When the teacher refused, it is claimed that retaliatory actions were taken against them. As a result, the SIT is considering registering a zero FIR and transferring the case to Wardha district for further investigation. This new revelation has raised serious concerns regarding corruption within the education system, with the SIT working swiftly to follow the trail of illegal activities.

Previously, Jamdar's role in the Shalarth ID scandal had already been exposed. Investigators revealed that she had been involved in the manipulation of the Shalarth portal to create fake teacher IDs, allowing fraudulent appointments and unauthorized salary disbursements. Over 600 fake Shalarth IDs were reportedly created, with an estimated ₹100 crore siphoned off through these illegal actions.

Within the Nagpur division alone, more than 540 irregular teacher appointments have been discovered, underlining the widespread nature of the fraud. The SIT is continuing its efforts to uncover more details about this scam, with further arrests expected as the investigation progresses.

The case has highlighted not only the systemic exploitation of the Shalarth platform but also significant lapses in oversight and accountability within the state's education department. This scandal has raised important questions about the integrity of digital systems used for payroll and personnel management and their vulnerability to manipulation.

As the investigation intensifies, authorities are promising stricter measures to prevent such frauds in the future and ensure that individuals responsible for this massive corruption are brought to justice.

The ongoing developments in this case reflect a growing need for stronger governance and transparency in the education sector to safeguard against such widespread malpractices.
